For anyone starting out with vinyl and want to be a bit serious about it, the AP-206 + AT-95E is a really good budget option. In any case better than the budget offerings of today's turntable manufacturers, that trie to make uninformed people believe that a TT with 0.5% wow and flutter can pass as 'audiophile'.

5 Just got myself an Akai AP 206. .. and seem to have som serious problems with it. When i play a record it keeps repeating itself at some places, this is the same no matter wich album i play. Have a theory that it needs to be som settings made but don't have any manual for it so now i ask around here. I am in the stage of buying a new needle to.

Aug 22, 2011. #9. i also have the akai ap 206c.its a great little turntable..nice ergonomics. keep the akai pc100 cartridge..its as good as any of the current budget cartridges available..and its tri-pole induced magnet design probably beats the majority of them on channel separation figures alone.. (with the caveat mentioned below)

Deox the Pitch controls if you encounter speed fluctuations, also the vr2 and vr3 resistors on the main circuit board.

The Akai AP-206 turntable has a direct drive motor with automatic return tonearm. The motor keeps constant speed. The Empire CD-10 has a new stylus. 1 2 3 melofelo Addicted Member Feb 10, 2011 #41 good as the akai ap-206c is..you probably need a better engineered arm to get the best out of the denon dl-103..its tracking force range is quote as 2.3gm - 2.7 gm on denon's website and its output is 0.3mv which i think will need a step up transformer unless your amp has a moving coil input..

#1 G'Day Folks First proper post so please point out where I might have done a better job, I'm learning here. I picked up a slightly the worse for wear Akai AP206c turntable on the weekend. It had a few issues: broken hinges, very grimy, a few weird scratches and running slightly slowly at a selected 33rpm even with the adjustment at full speed.
